Wellington E. Ulmer, 97, formerly of
Donald Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday,
Aug. 21, in the St. Joseph Care Center West, South Bend. He was
born on May 10, 1902, in Steuben County, Ind., to Albert and
Sharlot Estella (Alleshouse) Ulmer.
On Sept. 22, 1928, in South Bend, he married
Mae E. Holdeman, who survives. He is also survived by a
daughter, Edna Mae Ulmer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister,
Wilma Gilbert of Angola, Ind.; a brother, Wilbur Ulmer of
Florida; and by a sister-in-law, Edna Huizinga of South
Bend. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald F. Ulmer; three
sisters, Vivialeen Brooks, Velma Van Auken, and
Iona Shipe; and by three brothers, Kenneth Ulmer, Maynard
Ulmer and Lawrence Ulmer.
Wellington worked at the Studebaker
Corporation and then at Allied Signal where he retired as a tool
and die machinist. Wellington attended Tri State College, Angola,
and served his country in the National Guard. He was a member of
Ridgedale Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon,
elder, trustee, and Sunday school teacher.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, Aug. 28, in the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, with Dr.
Jack Volkers officiating. Cremation has taken place with burial
of the cremains at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, 1406 E. Ewing, South Bend, IN
46613. Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend is handling the
arrangements.
