Evelyn Tyson

Evelyn Wilhelm Tyson, 82, residing at St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Kern Road, died at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in St. Paul's Retirement Community.

 

She was born on Feb. 4, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Earl and Susie (Smith) Vincent, and had lived in this community all of her life.

 

In 1938, as Evelyn Vincent, in South Bend, she married John M. Shupp, who was killed in action in Luxembourg on Dec. 31, 1944. On April 20, 1946, in South Bend, she married Thomas Wilhelm, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1990. Then on Oct. 19, 1991, she was married to Kenneth Tyson, who also preceded her in death on July 25, 1999.

 

Evelyn retired from Sears and Roebuck after many years of service as a switchboard operator. She was a lifetime member of the First Brethren Church of South Bend, a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the church, and was a 1936 graduate of Riley High School, South Bend.

 

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and John Bush of South Bend; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Joanne Shupp of Middletown, Ohio; and a stepdaughter and her husband, Gloria and Wesley Gramenz of Mishawaka, Ind. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer (Jack) Kary of Granger, Ind., Andrea (Stephen) Gratrix of South Bend, Lori (Joel) Braswell of Texas and David Shupp of Middletown; two step-grandchildren, Connie (Thomas) Brown of South Bend and Richard (Marie) Himes of Cassopolis, Mich.; and by five great-grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Jeremy, Victoria and Alexis.

 

Funeral services for Evelyn Wilhelm Tyson will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14, in the First Brethren Church, 4909 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, 46614. Rev. Larry Baker, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty, Ind.

 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services on Friday in the church.
