Frederick M. Tschida, 80, of South Bend, IN passed away at
6:45 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 in his home. He was born on May
21, 1931 in South Bend, IN to the late Anton and Edith (Roliff)
Tschida. On April 7, 1956 in South Bend, IN, he married the
former Betty Lucille Verduin.
Fred is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Betty Lucille
Tschida; three daughters, Diana (Marc) Laudeman of Bremen,
IN, Kathy (Michael) Baier of Marietta, GA and Julie (Greg)
Youngs of Plymouth, IN; three sons, David (Nanette)
Tschida of South Bend, IN, Gary Tschida of Kennesaw, GA and
Steven (Barbara) Tschida of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren,
Lynette (Bryan) Miller, Jay and Katie Laudeman, Kristen
& Justin Tschida and Amanda and Sarah Youngs and three great
grandchildren, Keely, Keegan and Sawyer Miller. He is also
survived by four sisters, Francis Marcin of Lombard, IL,
Betty (Bob) Meiszberg of South Bend, IN, Margaret Nicholas
of South Bend, IN and Annabelle Reinseth of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Neff.
Fred was a lifelong resident of South Bend. He served honorably
in the United States Navy Reserves and then in the United States
Marine Corp serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the
South Bend Tribune as a compositor in 1992 after forty-four years
of service. Fred enjoyed playing bingo and early morning
breakfast with his friends. He was a volunteer, managing the
Co-op 65 Food Pantry on Western Avenue for five years and a
volunteer for the Monroe Center Food Pantry.
There will be no services. The family will receive friends from
4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 in the Palmer Funeral
Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. Palmer
Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services
are handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Frederick M.
Tschida may be offered to The Center for Hospice Care, 111
Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN 46637 or the American Cancer
Society, 601 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or to the
charity of the donor's choice.
