SOUTH BEND - James Robert "Stubby" Tremel, 60,
of South Bend, died Thursday evening in St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center. James worked for 30 years for Scot-Lad Foods
South Bend. He was born December 28, 1947, in South Bend to Ralph
and Gertrude (Nabicht) Tremel who preceded him in death.
On May 14, 1977, in Holy Cross Church, he married Fannie
"Amy" Mursten who survives, along with one
sister, Mary E. (Michael) Ryan of South Bend; two
brothers, R. Charles (Judy) Tremel of Athens, Georgia and J.
Joseph (Mary Ann) Tremel of Casper, Wyoming; 13 nieces and
nephews, Kathleen (Joshua) Tremel, Suzanne and Carl Tremel,
Eileen (Dane) Greives, Maureen (John) Lewis,
Michael (Trish) Ryan, Jennifer and John Tremel, James (Mary)
Tremel, Jacob (Jaylene) Tremel, Justin, Jeffrey and Jeremy
Tremel; nine great-nieces and nephews, Sam, Connor and Jack
Greives, Tucker, Cooper, Maccoy and Quinn Lewis, Lucas and Ruby Cole.
Also surviving is the daughter of Jim and Amys heart, Gretchen Schaller.
Jim had a passion for gardening, cooking and especially Notre
Dame Sports. He loved to feed family and friends and could make
every gathering a festive feast. Jim and Amy had a great love for
family, friends, neighbors and Notre Dame. We are grateful and
appreciative for all those who supported our family during Jims
illness. Your visits, phone calls and meals helped keep us going.
Jim kept a positive attitude and sense of humor during this time.
He was looking forward to ND's football season and making plans
for tailgating and road trips when God called him home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday August 19, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Friends may call Noon to 8 p.m. Monday in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 17131 Cleveland Road South Bend. Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society
