Ernest Ervin Townsend

Mr. Ernest Ervin Townsend, 67, who
resided on West Monroe Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away
following a brief illness at 3:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, in
Memorial Hospital. On Oct. 23, 1933, in South Bend, he was born
to the union of the late George B. and Martha (Doris)
Townsend. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Maude Hall,
Elva Williams, Bernice Flint, Geraldine Blake
and Gloria Burton; and by two brothers, Arthur Townsend
and Calvin Townsend. Mr. Townsend served in the United States
Army from April 10, 1956, to March 5, 1958, when he was honorably
discharged. He was a retired employee of the Bendix Corporation,
was a flower designer, and worked for Harry's Florist and the
House of Flowers. He was also a former member of Faith Baptist
Church. He leaves to mourn his loss five sisters, Mella Townsend-Mayes,
Ella Pope, Norsis Strickland and Elizabeth Stone,
all of South Bend, and Georgia Bradshaw of Gary, Ind.; two
brothers, Benjamin Townsend and Allen Townsend, both of South
Bend; along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Townsend will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 10, in Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
