Sister Mary Denise, CSC, whose
worldly name was Mary Tormey, died at Notre Dame last
night at 6 oclock following an illness of 1 days with
pneumonia. Before entering St. Marys convent and academy in
1872,taking her vows two years later, Sister Denise was a school
teacher in Niles, Mich. She was born in Ireland in 1843. Nearly
all her life as a nun was spent at St. Marys convent. She
is survived by a brother in Madison, Wis., and two nephews,
Thomas and John Malley, and a niece, Mary Maley, all of
Mishawaka.

The funeral of Sister Mary Denise,
who died at Notre Dame Infirmary Friday evening occurred at the
convent chapel, Sunday morning at 9 oclock. Rev. Father
McManns assisted by a number of other clergy officiating.
Internment at St. Marys community cemetery.
Sister Denises worldly name was Anna Tormey.
She was born in Ireland in 1843 and before ectering the convent
was a teacher at Niles, Mich. she is survived by a twin brother,
Thomas S. Tormey, of Madiscon, Wis., and his family, by her
sisters children, Thomas, William and Mary E. Lally
of Mishawaka and by her brothers family, Attorney Luke
Tormey, Mrs. Minnie Kern, Mrs. John Jauch, of
Niles. Thomas Tormey, of Buchanan Heral and Mrs. Samuel Finch
of Mishawaka. She was a cousin of Monsignor Mooney of New
York; Bishop Gibney of Perth, Australia; Rev. Patrick
Gibney of Portland, Ore., and the late Rev. Luke Tormey of
Auburn, Calif.
