SOUTH BEND - Thelma R. "Sally" Torbenson, 87, of
Inwood Hills Estates, South Bend, passed away at 6:15 a.m.
Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center,
South Bend. Sally retired in 1986 from Milady Shop in South Bend
as a sportswear buyer after 35-plus years of service. She was
born on Nov. 13, 1920, in Iola, WI, to the late Glen Burr and
Mabel (Rosholt) Lockery, and had lived in this area
since the mid-50s, coming from Wisconsin.
On December 25, 1942, in Lawton, Oklahoma,
she married Charles Harold Torbenson, who preceded her in death
on July 12, 2002. She is survived by three daughters, Dona
(Michael) Sheehan of Cedar, MI, Kristin (Spartaco) Casini
and Joni (Larry) Ambler of South Bend; one son, Gifford
(Nancy) Torbenson of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Gifford
(Antoinette) of Seoul, Korea, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Torbenson of
Bloomington, IN, Mikki (Kenneth) Paul of Medina, OH,
Angela (Christopher) Nooe of South Lyon, MI, Dominic
(Mary) Casini, Gabrielle Casini and Eric Kulcsar, all of
South Bend; 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Glen
Lockery of Moscow, Idaho, and Milton Lockery of LaGrange Park,
IL. One brother, Donald Lockery, preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m.
today in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South
Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614. Michael Sheehan will
officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the
services in the funeral home. A private entombment will take
place on Wednesday morning at Southlawn Cemetery.
Sally graduated from Rosholt High School in
Rosholt, WI, and attended Lawrence College in Appleton, WI. She
loved to travel and did so quite frequently with her occupation.
She loved to swing dance and sing. She had a great fun-loving
spirit and was very sports-minded. She enjoyed down-hill ski
jumping, cross-country skiing, track, horses, and spending time
with her family at the family lake cabin in northern Wisconsin.
She will be greatly missed. Her family would like to thank the
staff at Inwood Hills Estates and the physicians and nurses at
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center for their kind and
compassionate care. Contributions in memory of Thelma R.
Torbenson may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children,
