Mr. Edward F. Thornton, 86, of West
Sample Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life at 2:30 a.m.
on Sunday, Dec. 21, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
following an extended illness.
Mr. Thornton was born on May 21, 1917, to
the union of Floyd Thornton and Gertrude (Amey) Thornton
in Tyronza, Ark. He moved to South Bend in 1927. Mr. Thornton
attended the former Central High. He retired from Allied
Corporation in 1991.
He is survived by three sons, Larkyn
Thornton of South Bend, Fielding Thornton of Houston, Texas, and
Lynwood Thornton of Detroit, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Forrest
of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; a close friend, James Crawford; and by a
special friend and caregiver, Patricia L. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Mildred Michell in 1991, and by his
parents.
Mr. Edward Thornton's services will be at
noon Monday, Dec. 29, in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702
Lincoln Way West, South Bend, where friends may call one hour
before services. Burial will follow services at Highland
Cemetery.
