SOUTH BEND - Dorothy M. Thornton, 83, of East Cedar Street, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Miss Thornton retired in 1969 from the billing department of Associates Investment Corp. after 30 years of service. She was born July 11, 1911, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

She is survived by two nieces, Kathy Hayes of Mishawaka and Rosemarie White of Atlanta; six nephews, Thomas Thornton of Osceola and David Thornton, Daniel Thornton, Paul Thornton, Howard Thornton and William White, all of South Bend. She was a member of Associates Women's Club, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Harvest House and Altar Society.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a parish rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
