David A. Thornton

MISHAWAKA - Private services for David A. Thornton, 76, of Rivers Edge Court, who died at 5 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Cremation will take place, with burial at a later date. McGann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mr. Thornton retired in 1972 as founder and owner of Roseland Pharmacy, was also former owner of Wedgewood Pharmacy and Portage Pharmacy, and was a former employee of Merrill Pharmacy, Mishawaka. He was born Feb. 13, 1919, in South Bend.

On Oct. 1, 1965, in Coldwater, Mich., he married Virginia Lee McCreary Merrill. She survives with three stepsons, Marc Merrill of Mishawaka, Chris Merrill of Granger, and Edward Merrill III of Orlando, Fla.; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and former member of Roseland Lions Club.
