SOUTH BEND - Shirley Mae Thompson, 70, of Elwood Avenue,
surrendered her soul to the Lord on April 24, 2010, at 10:00 p.m.
Shirley was born on March 23, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, to
Charlie and Octavia Bryant Lewis. Shirley grew up in Blytheville,
Arkansas, by her late Aunt Carrie Bell Rollins, but later
returned to South Bend, Ind. Shirley retired from F.W. Means.
Shirley was a member of Faith Apostolic Church and enjoyed life
to the fullest. Shirley was not just a mother but a mom to anyone
in need, is the reason she was best known as "Big
Mama." She will be truly missed by her family and everyone
who knew her. Shirley is survived by three sons, Jerry Thompson
Jr. of Galveston, Texas, Randall Owens and Albert (Rachel)
Hairston Jr., both of South Bend, Indiana; three daughters,
Connie (Glenn) Ellis and Kimberly Lewis, both of South Bend,
Indiana, and Tanya Hairston Webster of Lombard, Illinois;
stepchildren, Sheila Marshall, Dwayne Marshall, Tracy Marshall,
Renee (Maurice) Acker, Jacqueline Marshall; sister, Gloria Ann
Flemings; six brothers, Douglas Lewis, Cecil Lewis, Paul Lewis,
Delbert Lewis, Clyde Lewis and Thorne Lamar Lewis; stepbrother
and sisters, Donald Scott, Betty Scott, Joyce Scott, Eda Mae
Scott and Mariam Scott; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson Sr.;
granddaughter, Octivia Stokes; best friend, Dorothy Fulton;
special friends, Christine McGee and Otis Smith, Acknowledgment
Albert Hairston Sr. and Dorothy Whitten; and a host of nieces,
nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Shirley
was preceded in death by both of her parents and aunt, three
sisters, Carrie Mae Lewis, Bonnie Jean Walker and Wally Yvonne
Buchanon-Butler, stepbrothers, Robert Scott, Kenny Scott and Olie
Scott, and husband, Jerry Thompson Sr. Services for Mrs. Shirley
Mae Thompson will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010, in Faith
Apostolic Ministries, 935 N. Bendix St., South Bend, IN.
Visitation will begin @ 11:00 a.m.; funeral service will begin @
12 noon; burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery.
The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral
arrangements.
