Marie G. Thomas, 63, of West Indiana Avenue in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11:47 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Marie was born on Jan. 21, 1938, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Luther F. and Josie P. (Collins) Ice. She was preceded in death by her father, and by a great-grandchild, Alexis Ashley Blood.

On Oct. 22, 1955, in Mishawaka, Marie married Norman E. Thomas. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband; her sons, Robert E. Thomas, Steve A. Thomas and David J. (Cathy) Thomas, all of South Bend; two daughters, Pamela (Michael) Garber and Marilyn I. (Chris) Cherrone, both of South Bend; her mother, Josie Ice of Mishawaka; three brothers, James A. (Shirley) Ice and Ronnie Ice, both of Mishawaka, and Roger (Sharon) Ice of Ocean City, Calif.; a sister, Carol (Lewis) Jacoby of Roselawn, Ind.; 17 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren; her best friend, Frances Collins of South Bend; her uncle, Ab (Frances) Collins of South Bend; and her aunt, Lillie Shafer of South Bend.

Marie was a homemaker.

Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, with an additional two hours visitation prior to services in the funeral home. Pastor Patrick Blevins will be officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Teachers Credit Union in a memorial fund for Marie or to the American Lung Association.
