JAMES R. THOMAS
  James R. Thomas, 45, of 23695 Fillmore Road, died at 3:25 a.m. today
in the Hines Veteran's Hospital, Maywood, Ill., after a lengthy
illness.  He was a former Studebaker Corp. employee.  Born on Feb. 17,
1935, in SouthBend, he had lived here all his life.  He is survived by
his mother, Mrs. Lurea Vanatta of South Bend; a sister, Mrs. Thelma
Graham, of Fort Wayne, and a brother, Charles D., of South Bend.
  Friends may call from w to 9 p.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral
Home.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Post
50, American Legion.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Monson
United Methodist Church.
