JAMES W. THOMAS
  James W. Thomas, 78, of 50754 Portage Road, died at 10 a.m. today in
Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  He was retired from the
Studebaker Corp.  Born on Nov. 3, 1901, in Rockville, Ind., he lived
in South Bend for 50 years.  On May 17, 1941, he married Florence
Borowski, who survives with a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Dulcet of South
Bend; a stepson, Ervin Szocinski of South Bend, two grandchildren; and
two sisters, Mrs. Lois Satterfield of Columbus, Ind., and Mrs. Ruby
Edmonds of Bakersfield, Calif.
 Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski and Sons
Funeral Home.
