A funeral mass for Brother Basil Thomas
CSC, 55, of Holy Cross Brothers Center, who died at 10:27
a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, from
injuries received Saturday night in a bicycle-car accident, will
be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Brothers Chapel at the Holy Cross
Brothers Center.Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at the
Brothers Center. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday at the
Center where a wake will be in the Chapel at 7:30 p.m.
He was riding a bicycle southbound on
Juniper when he was struck by a car near Juniper and Pendle, just
north of the University of Notre Dame, about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
He was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Wellesville NY, and entered the
Congregation of Holy Cross on Feb. 1, 1947 at Valatie NY. He made
his final profession of vows on Aug. 16, 1952. He spent 1948 and
1949 at St. Charles Boys School in Milwaukee. After two years at
the Ave Maria Press at Notre Dame, he spent the next 16 years on
the staff of Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio. His next
assignment was at LeMans Academy near Rolling Prairie, where he
served for 12 years. At the time of his death he was a pastoral
minister at St. Casmirs Catholic Church, South Bend.
