Mishawaka Joseph M. Thallemer, 70, prominent Mishawaka funeral director, died unexpectedly at 11:25 today in his home, 503 W. Third St. He suffered a heart attack a short time before his death.
Mr. Thallemer was born in Mishawaka, and had always lived here. On Jan. 26, 1915, he married Mabel C. Titus in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The funeral director started his career in 1910 when he purchased the Hobart & Jones Funeral Home. He and Mrs. Thallemer were to have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this evening at a dinner in the Mayfair Restaurant.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1878, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Church.
Survivin are his widow; three foster daughters, Mrs. Fabian Gerstbauer, of Mishawaka, Mrs. John Korpal, of South Bend, and Sister M. Cyril P.H.J.C. at the St. Pauls Convent, Fort Wayne, Ind.; a brother William Thallemer, of Mishawaka and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Thallemer Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral services for Joseph M. Thallemer, 70, who died early Wednesday in his home, will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Curt A. Suelzer, pastor, will be celebrant of the solemn requiem high mass, with Rev. Richard J. Smith, deacon, and Rev. Eldon Miller, sub-deacon. Rev James Gerstbauer, of Fort Wayne, Ind. will assist in the sanctuary.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Arthur J. Philion, of Mishawaka; Louis McGann of South Bend; K.J. Sebring, of Kalamazoo, Mich,; Melvin Schenvogt, of Chicago; Howard Connelly, of Three Oaks, Mich., and Fred Waidner, of Mishawaka.
The rosary will be recited in the Thallemer Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
