Gerard E. Thallemer, 72, of Hass Drive, died after a sudden illness on Thursday, March 18, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind. He was born on April 12, 1931, in Mishawaka, Ind., the son of William and Johanna (Vanderbosch) Thallemer, and was a lifelong resident of the area. On Nov. 24, 1956, he married Maria Anna (Casasanta) Thallemer in Mishawaka, who preceded him in death. He was a loving father who is survived by five daughters, Cindy (Steve) Bradberry of Osceola, Ind., Jacquelyn Yonto of Mishawaka, Kathleen Thallemer of Mishawaka, Michelle (Chris) Quinn of Granger, Ind., and Maureen (Jay) Gucky of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two sons, Bill (Stacey) Thallemer of Brewton, Ala., and Scott (Brigid) Thallemer of South Bend. He was blessed with the love of 16 grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Sara, Jamen, Patrick, Reilley, Connor, Shane, Ryan, Crew, Brittianna, Coley, Brendan, Bauer, Hampton and Keagan. Jerry loved his children and especially enjoyed spending time with all of his many grandchildren. Some of his fondest memories were of his many vacations to Fort Myers Beach, Fla. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He retired from NIPSCO after 40 years of dedicated service. In his later years, he traveled abroad with his constant companion, Colleen McCann, enjoying life and creating new memories. His zest for life will be sorely missed by all whose lives were touched by his presence. The memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, in Saint Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Saint Joseph County. The McGann Funeral Home is handling arrangements. |
Editor: He is a nephew of Joseph Thallemer who started the Thallemer Funeral Home in Mishawaka in 1910.
