Sister M. Teresa Margaret (Margaret Helen Terhaar) CSC, was born in Cottonwood, Idaho, to the late George J. Terhaar and Mary E. Weis Tehaar. Sister is survived by her sister, Dorothy England of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Freda Terhaar, Greencreek, Idaho; and niece, Marydithe Brier of Federal Way, Wash.
Sister Teresa Margaret received her early education in Greencreek and Cottonwood, Idaho. Before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1934, Sister worked as a telephone operator. She made her first profession in 1937 and final profession in 1940. Sister began as an elementary teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah and Los Angeles, Calif.
In 1939, Sister entered Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing, Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated in 1942, a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She was assigned to Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio and Saint Agnes' Hospital, Ventura, Calif. Sister spent 12 years at Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah, and 33 years at Saint Alphonsus' Hospital. She held various positions as Director of the School of Nursing, Head Nurse Medical, Night Supervisor, Director of Nursing Services and in later years, was in Medical Records -- Liaison Officer, Administrative Assistant and receptionist in Pastoral Services. As health needs became uppermost, she retired to Saint Catherine's, Ventura, and in 1999 came to Saint Mary's Convent where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, April 14, in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
