Marie Post Templeton
July 8, 1915 - April 30, 2002
The Lord called his servant, Marie Templeton, 86, to rest at Southfield Village, South Bend, Ind.
Marie was born to Harry Alfred Post and Nina Dot Johnson Post in Dowagiac, Mich., but she grew up in Buchanan, Mich., where she was Blossom Queen in 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ames Robert Templeton, M.D.; and by her brother, Maynard A. Post.
Marie is survived by four children, Helen "Jan" (Ira) Jagerman and Marilyn Kay (Don) DeCraene of Mishawaka, Ames Robert Templeton Jr. of Galien, Mich., and Thomas Post (Monique) Templeton of Carlsbad, Calif.; grandchildren, Debra (Carl) Holt, Doug (Peggy) Jagerman, Tressa (Gary) Decker, Larry Templeton, Sharon (Rob) Hayward, Tracy Jagerman, Valerie Templeton, Don (Taffani) DeCraene Jr., Jeffrey Templeton, Jennifer (Jon) Guimont, David DeCraene, Blair DeCraene, Joseph DeCraene and Robert Templeton. Marie also leaves 14 great-grandchildren and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Marie graduated from Buchanan High School and Epworth (Memorial) Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1937. Marie was a registered nurse at Epworth Memorial Hospital for seven years. She married Dr. Ames R. Templeton on Oct. 5, 1940. He passed away Oct. 1, 1972. Marie prepared for a second career in teaching by graduating from Bethel College in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, and from St. Mary's College with a master's degree in special education. She taught for School City of Mishawaka at Battell School for 12 years. In 1962 Marie was awarded the George Award for service to the Mishawaka community. July 8, 1995, was declared Marie Templeton Day by Mayor Robert Beutter to celebrate Marie's 80th birthday.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Mishawaka Women's Club, the First Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka, Saint Joseph's Community Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary's Alumnae Association, and Bethel College Alumni Association.
Marie's family wants to express their appreciation for the caring staff at Southfield Village where Marie spent the last 14 months of her life on earth.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 3, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, North Main Street, Mishawaka. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka, followed by a reception for friends.
Memorial gifts in Marie's name may be made to the church or to the Ames R. Templeton, M.D., Continuing Education Scholarship at St. Joseph Community Hospital.
