Dorothy L. Tekker
July 30, 1917 - Nov. 14, 2006
Dorothy L. Tekker, 89, of Osceola,
passed away at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006, in Miller's
Merry Manor of Wakarusa.
Dorothy was born on July 30, 1917,
in South Bend, to the late Frank and Mary (Geldner) Farrell.
Born to immigrant parents, Dorothy
was one of 10 children. She attended Riley High School in South
Bend, but the Depression cut short her education when she needed
to find work as a housekeeper to help with family expenses. It
was there she met her husband, George T. Tekker Jr. They were
married August 12, 1937. Dorothy and George worked side-by-side
for many years operating a grocery store/gas station on the
corner of Jefferson and Currant. After that they ran a catering
business. She was a wonderful cook and her pumpkin pies were
family favorites. Dorothy was a sweet, soft-spoken lady who loved
cooking, playing cards, fishing, bowling, and her children and
grandchildren. We will miss her dearly.
Dorothy is survived by her husband,
George of Osceola; two sons, Larry (Kay) Tekker of Loudon, TN,
and Thomas (Wanda) Tekker of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren,
Drinda (Bill) Bokhart of Mishawaka, Tommy (Malena) Tekker of
Mishawaka, Brett (Melanie) Tekker of Waxhaw, NC, Matthew (Nancy)
Tekker of Kotzebue, AK, Mike Dial, Jeff (Lisa) Dial, Denise
(Marc) Merrill and Renee Kitts, all of Mishawaka.; 16
great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also
survived by one brother, Roy (Theresa) Farrell of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Dick, Francis, Bill and Charlie, and by four sisters,
Ruth, Elaine, Cecelia and Bernice.
