Clifford E. Taylor

Nov. 17, 1930 - March 27, 1999

Mr. Clifford Eugine Taylor, 68, of East Bertrand Road, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 10:17 a.m. on Saturday, March 27. The death occurred at his home with his family gathered around his bedside.

Mr. Taylor was born on Nov. 17, 1930, in Doniphan, Mo., to Reden Jasper and Katie (Marlow) Taylor, and had lived in this area since 1953, coming from Doniphan.

He was employed by the South Bend (Ind.) Lathe Company for 41 years, and retired in May of 1995.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the U.S. Army, and a member of American Legion Post #26, Niles. He was also formerly active in the Buchanan Westerners Horse Club. He was well known for his interest in farming, and raising cattle and horses, and for his enjoyment of gardening and spending time outdoors. But he is best remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

On June 11, 1966, in Berrien Springs, Mich., he was married to the former Patricia Mabry, who survives. Also surviving are their children, David V. (Amber) Taylor of Modesto, Calif., Randall E. (Beth) Taylor of Niles, and Pamela A. (Philip) Smith of South Bend; grandchildren, Wyatt E. Taylor of Niles, Jonah R. Smith of South Bend, Nicole D. Taylor of Niles, Samantha Taylor of Modesto, and Jennifer Taylor of Modesto; great-grandson, Jonah C. Taylor of Modesto; and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family in both Michigan and Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harry E. Taylor, who died in 1985; sisters, Grace Holden, Opal Kutzman, and Dolly Miles; and by brothers, Raymond, Buster, and John Taylor.

Funeral services for Clifford E. Taylor will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Jerry D. Bell of Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka, Ind., officiating. Committal services will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, and will include a Veteran's Flag Presentation by American Legion Post 26 Commander John McLaughlin.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Halbritter Funeral Home.
