In Loving Memory of Mrs. Alvana S.
Taylor, Alvana S. Taylor, formerly of 215 N. Falcon
Street, South Bend, Ind., a dear mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and friend, passed away at 11 p.m. on Sunday,
May 30, in the Cardinal Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She
was 91 years of age. She was born to the union of McDonald and
Alice Shannon in Chickasaw, Okla. Mrs. Taylor came to
Indiana in 1930 where she met and married William F. Taylor in
1940. He preceded her in death in 1966. Mrs. Taylor was also
preceded in death by a son, Robert L. in 1991; a sister, Beatrice
Clay; and by a brother, W.B. Shannon. For many years she
was employed as a domestic worker, retiring at the age of 82. Her
favorite hobby was fishing, which she greatly enjoyed until the
age of 85. She was a member of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptist
Church, the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Pride of South Bend Temple #264, Daughters of Elks, and the Court
of Colanthe (women's division of the Knights of Pythias). She is
survived by a daughter, Nancy D. Jenkins; a son, William
W. Taylor and his wife Verlis, a faithful and loving
daughter-in-law, all of South Bend; 13 grandchildren, and 11
great-grandchildren; a beloved niece, Isabell Lester of
California; and a host of cousins and friends. She will be dearly
missed.
Visitation will be held from one hour before
services at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral
Home is entrusted with the funeral services.
