SOUTH BEND - Paul A. Tavernier, 70, of 1920 S. Kendall St., died at 4 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mr. Tavernier retired in 1980 as the owner of Tavco Maintenance Co., Elkhart, after 22 years and was a former employee of Indiana University South Bend and Super Auto Salvage as a security guard. He was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Mishawaka. On April 21, 1966, in South Bend, he married Betty Jordan. She survives with three daughters, Julia Lewis, Sandra Asherman and Phyllis ''Midge'' Lewis, all of Mishawaka; six sons, Cary Tavernier of Mishawaka, Robert Jordan of Rochester, Douglas Jordan, Paul Tavernier and David Tavernier, all of South Bend, and Chris Jordan of Elkhart; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Irene Parks of Illinois, Mary Davis and Alice Sayer, both of South Bend, Billy Vaughn of Mishawaka and Betty Simon of Bremen; and two brothers, George of Florida and Robert of Mishawaka. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, Mishawaka, American Legion Post 161, Mishawaka, and Salvation Army, Mishawaka, and was a World War II veteran.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. Cremation will take place. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before services Wednesday in the funeral home.
