William S. Tarr (March 2, 1909 -- Dec. 3, 2003)
William "Bill" Tarr, 94, much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, in St. Paul's Nursing Home.
Bill was a gentle soul who had kind words for everyone and had a deep love of fishing. Being on a lake with pole in hand was his relaxing mainstay in life. When he could no longer drive, his neighbor and fishing pal Keith took him regularly, helping him in and out of the boat. The nurses at St. Paul's who guided him to the "big lake in the sky" have been wonderful, kind and intuitive. For these things we, his family, are eternally grateful.
Bill was born on March 2, 1909, in St. Paul, Minn., to William and Elizabeth Tarr. He was a salesman and delivery driver for Kreamo and retired in 1971 after 26 years. Prior to working for Kreamo, Mr. Tarr was also employed at City Dairy. Bill was a former member of St. Anthony de Padua Church, Teamsters #364, the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society.
On Oct. 1, 1932, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, he married Rose Cifra, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Rosa "Lee" Hoover of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three grandchildren, Roxie Hoover of Osceola, Ind., Randy Hoover of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Tracy Scott of La Mesa, Calif.; and by seven great-grandchildren, Cherisse, Jamie, Candace, Sunshine, Natasha, Nathan and Breanna.
William was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ross Hoover; a grandson, Jamie Hoover; and by two sisters, Otillia "Tillie" Arch and Rose Turk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Edwardsburg. Friends and family may call one-half hour before services in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Office Renovation Fund.
The Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
