June Traeger Tarnow, 84 years old, residing on Riley Road, North Liberty, IN, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 1999, at her home after years of failing health and suffering a stroke in March of 1999. Mrs. Tarnow has lived in the North Liberty area since 1963, coming from Hobart, IN. She is the last surviving child of Frank and Edith (Reichert) Traeger. Frank Traeger was the former chief of police in Hobart. Along with her parents, one daughter, Edith Vincent preceded her in death on December 13, 1975; and one brother, Richard Traeger, also preceded her in death. June was born on June 1, 1915, in Hobart. She graduated from the Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. She worked at Carlisle Nursing Home, the former Ridgedale Nursing Home and retired in 1975 from St. Mary's Convent, all of South Bend.
On September 22, 1940, in Hobart, she married George Vincent. She remarried on November 22, 1963, in Portage, IN, to Paul Tarnow, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1982. June was a member of the Caroline Street Church of Christ in South Bend. She was a former girl scout leader for many years and a volunteer with the Red Cross. She also volunteered her time when she was living in Hobart by assisting elderly folks in her community. June also raised Destiny and Shawn Vincent, twin children of her daughter, Edith Vincent, after Edith's death in 1975.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeaneane (Dr. James) High of Los Angeles, CA, and Christine Brodzinski of North Liberty, IN; one son, Roland Vincent of Panorama City, CA; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Higbee, Laura Higbee, twins, Destiny and Shawn Vincent, Sarah, Brad, Megan and Eric Brodzinski; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Leeker and Skyler Vincent; one uncle, John Traeger of Hobart; and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 1, 1999, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Cecil Belcher, Minister, will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. today, August 31, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the Hobart Cemetery in Hobart, IN. Burial will follow. Contributions in memory of June Traeger Tarnow may be donated to the charity of donor's choice.
