Joseph J. Tagliaferri, 81, of East 4th Street, Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 1, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Joseph was born on Aug. 25, 1923, in Elkhart to Antonio and Sistine (Cittadine) Tagliaferri. He was a lifetime area resident.
On July 8, 1950, in Mishawaka, he married the former Jean Malchow, who preceded him in death on May 21, 1991. Also preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Helen Tagliaferri, in 2003. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cheryl (Lynn) Dittmer of Cassopolis, Mich., Lisa (Brian) Lares of Granger, and Jo Ann Tagliaferri of Mishawaka; his sons, Mark (Kim), Daniel and Matthew Tagliaferri all of Mishawaka, and Patrick of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren, Matt, Erin, Brian III, Ben, Elliott, Danyelle, Nic, Amber, Tony, Mindy and Christy; three great grandsons, and a brother, Harry (Gloria) of Mishawaka.
Joseph was a United States Army Veteran; he served his country proudly during World War II, at which time he received the Purple Heart. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Joseph was a good man, a wonderful father, loving grandfather, and fine brother. All who knew and loved him will miss him.
Family and friends may come together to remember his life from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 3rd, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4th, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
