MISHAWAKA - Gertrude M. Szuba, 79, of Mishawaka, IN,
passed away at 9:30 AM Monday, July 21, 2008, in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, South Bend, following a brief illness.
She was born on November 8, 1928, to the late Ludwik and Frances Putek
in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with
her parents, five sisters, Anna, Mary, Louise, Helen and Irene;
and five brothers, Frank, John, Walter, Roman and Harry, also
preceded her in death. On May 5, 1948, as Gertrude M. Putek, she
married Joseph M. Szuba at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South
Bend, IN. Joseph died on August 11, 1993. She is survived by two
daughters, Rebecca (Ronald) Rzepka of Granger, IN, and
Kathy (Richard) Cavinder of North Liberty, IN; one son,
James J. (Mary) Szuba of Granger, IN; seven grandchildren, Rachel
(David) Hartz, Brandon Szuba, Tara (Jake) Rodts,
Kyle Rzepka, Corey Rzepka, Tracy (Joel) Kenna and Ryan
(Ryanne) Cavinder; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Madelynn
Cavinder; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Szuba was a member of St. John the
Baptist Parish, where she was a former member of the Altar &
Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Retirees Club at St.
Casimir Parish. Gertrude enjoyed life, especially with her
family. Anytime the family came to visit you could see the joy in
her eyes, especially her grandchildren (husbands and wives and
girlfriends), and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and
joy. Gertrude also enjoyed cooking for her family, which was the
best meal one could eat. She also enjoyed decorating her new home
with style and class. Gertrude never spoke a bad word about any
family member and always treated each with the same respect. She
was a devout Catholic who loved Jesus Christ. Special thanks to
Kathleen Michor, her best friend, for her loving care and
companionship. Mom will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be no visitation. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 23, in
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at
St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Kaniewski
Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, is handling arrangements.
