Benedict S. Szczechowski, 83, of
Ritschard Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 5 a.m. on Wednesday,
April 12, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was born
on Aug. 24, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area
resident. Mr. Szczechowski retired in 1975 from the Kreamo
Bakery.
On Nov. 27, 1937, in South Bend, he married
Evelyn Holewczynski, who preceded him in death on Nov. 27,
1997. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry
Sechowski, Richard Szczechowski and John Szczechowski. He is
survived by three daughters, Patricia (Roger) Smolka,
Geraldine (Truman) Nordhagen and Sandra (Ronald) Wesolowski,
all of South Bend; two grandchildren, Daren (Dawn) Wesolowski of
South Bend and Robert Smolka of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four
sisters, Esther Mumaw, Evelyn Deka, Alice Cukrowicz
and Virginia Tomaszewski; and by two brothers, Daniel
Szczechowski and Clarence Szczechowski. Mr. Szczechowski was a
member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's
Society and Teamsters Local #364.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
today, April 14, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower
Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be held
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, in St. Adalbert Catholic
Church, with entombment to follow in the Resurrection Gardens
Mausoleum in St. Joseph Cemetery.
