SOUTH BEND - Orpha Leona Swihart, 88, of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, formerly of South Bend, died at 3:25 p.m. Friday in the health care center.

Miss Swihart retired in 1965 from Indiana and Michigan Power Co., South Bend, where she was employed for 36 years. She was born Feb. 15, 1905, in Roann, Ind., and lived in South Bend from 1927 to 1965; in Largo, Fla., from 1965 to 1981; in Marion, Ind., from 1981 to 1986; and at Timbercrest since 1986. Surviving are three nieces, Bernice Frank of Wabash, Ind., Margaret Gordon of Payne, Ohio, and Nancy Fries of Marion, Ind.; and three nephews, Don Alber of Wabash, David Christie of Largo, Fla., and Jim Christie of Hawthorn, Calif. She was a member of Marion Church of the Brethren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be today in Roann Community Cemetery, Roann. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Main St. Chapel of Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Home, Wabash. Memorial contributions may be made to Timbercrest Retirement Community.
