Ollene Dagmar Swanson, 65, of
Southern View Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away in Memorial
Hospital on Thursday, March 20, after a long and courageous
battle against myelofibrosis. Mrs. Swanson was born Feb. 21,
1938, in South Bend, to the late Olle and Thelma (Dumont) Olsen,
and was a lifelong resident of South Bend.
On Sept. 10, 1960, in South Bend, she
married Roland R. Swanson, who survives. In addition to her
husband, she leaves behind to mourn her loss a son, Eric (Kelly)
Swanson of Macomb, Mich.; a daughter, Kristen (Bryan) Smith
of South Bend; five grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah and Colin
Swanson, and Peter and Annika Smith; a sister, Anita (Carl) Hunt
of South Bend; a brother, Ronald (Patsy) Olsen of Wilson, Mich.,
and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Minnehaha
Academy in Minneapolis, Minn., and attended Ivy Tech State
College and Indiana University of South Bend for 20 years. She
was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation. She
was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, South Bend. A
devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she took great pride in her
family and was an enthusiastic traveler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday, March 24, in the Evangelical Covenant Church, 3025 E.
Edison Road, South Bend, with Rev. Kendall Dahlstrom officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger,
Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today, March 23, in the
Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Memorial
contributions may be made to the church or to the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation, 6214 Morenci Trail, Suite 290, Indianapolis,
IN 46268.
