Janet E. Swanson, 79, of South Miami Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 7:34 a.m. Friday, June 8th, in Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Swanson was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. Janet was the former co-owner of the "Locker Room Lounge" located in the North Village Mall, worked for the South Bend Police Department in the detective bureau and records bureau, worked for Ken's Den in Mishawaka and Venture Store in Scottsdale Mall, and worked for the South Bend Tribune as a receptionist.

Mrs. Swanson is survived by three sons, William E. (Katie) Swanson, Mike J. Swanson and Jeffrey R. Swanson, all of South Bend; five grandchildren whom she loved and cherished, Jennifer M. Swanson, Maggie E. Swanson, Sarah J. Swanson, Rachel L. Swanson and Zachary C. Swanson, all of South Bend; a sister, Ruth Kendall of Bismark, N.D.; and by four nephews, Terry, Everett, Steve and Ron Kendall. Janet enjoyed life and all athletic events. She cherished all sports her children played and her grandchildren play. She looked forward day to day watching her grandchildren play ball.

There will be no visitation or services; cremation will take place. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to 5313 Larkspur Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/ Indiana 23, South Bend, handled arrangements and extend heartfelt sympathy to the Swanson family.
