Herbert H. Swanson, 73, born on Dec.
3, 1925, in Shell Lake, Wis., to Gust and Ida (Erickson) Swanson,
passed away on Monday morning, Jan. 4, in his residence. He was
preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Carl Swanson
of Hudson, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores A. (Wagner)
Swanson, who he married in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 21, 1948; two
daughters, Christina (Larry) Gilbert of Elkhart, Ind., and
Teresa (Dave) Jaronik of New Carlisle, Ind.; two sons,
Mark (Sandra) Swanson of Osceola, Ind., and Jeff (Holly) Swanson
of South Bend, Ind.; five grandchildren, Nicole Gilbert, Jamie,
Scott, Jeff and Kristen Swanson; and by three sisters, Ethel March
of Broomfield, Colo., Signe Wikberg of Red Oak, Texas, and
Mabel (Bill) Fay of Pensacola, Fla.
Mr. Swanson served in the Navy during World
War II. He worked for Johnson Controls, Inc., of South Bend for
forty years, and was a member of Local 172. He was also a member
of the German Township Lions Club, and was an usher at Corpus
Christi Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, in Corpus Christi
Church. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may
call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.
on Saturday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive.
Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Church, to
the American Heart Association, or to the American Lung
Association. ''He loved to work with his hands and has left us
with many handcrafted memories, as well as memories of his
thoughtfulness and caring. He taught us so much; we will never
forget. We will miss him.''
