Harold E. Swanson
ST. JOSEPH -- Harold E. Swanson, 87,
of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Lakeland Hospital,
St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will
be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Family
Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Friends may call
beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow
at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend, Ind., at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the VanAndel Cancer Research Institute, Grand
Rapids
Mr. Swanson was born June 18, 1916, in South
Bend to Nathaniel and Josephine (Peltz) Swanson. On Oct.
7, 1939, he married the former Ruth McClellan in South
Bend. Harold served his country during World War II in the
Merchant Marines. He retired in 1968 as executive vice president
of Drewry's Limited in South Bend after 36 years of employment.
Harold was a former South Bend Rotarian, and he loved boating,
fishing, and woodworking
Harold is survived by his wife, Ruth; two
daughters -- Judy (Tony) Belski of St. Joseph and Jill Reddig
of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren -- Jodie (Ken) Crandall,
Elizabeth (Kevin) Remington, Christopher Schick and
Lt. C.J. (Claire) Reddig; and three great-grandchildren -- Donald
and Alicia Crandall and Jacob Remington. Harold is also survived
by an American Field Service exchange student whom he and his
wife hosted in their home for a year in 1959 and 1960, Inger Kyllingstad
of Norway
