Evelyn H. Swanson, 88, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Saturday evening, Sept. 11, in Manor Care Home, Elk Grove, Ill. She was born on April 17, 1911, in South Bend, to Ernest and Hilma (Peterson) Melander. On June 12, 1937, she married Walfred M. Swanson, who died in 1983. She is survived by her sons, Robert M. of Nashville, Tenn., and Dale E. of Elk Grove; four grand-children, Brian, Kevin, Kathryn and Robert; three great-grandchildren; and by three sisters and two brothers, Marian Larson of Munster, Ind., Lillian Tohulka of Rolling Prairie, Ind., Harriet Billger of South Bend, and Donald and Harry Melander of South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with the Rev. Kendall Dalstrom, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
