NEW CARLISLE - Betty J. Swank, 73, of Chicago Trail Village, died Sunday, May 25, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Mrs. Swank was born on June 4, 1923, in Niles, Mich., and was a lifelong area resident.

On Jan. 20, 1942, in New Carlisle, as Betty J. Bennitt she married Quentin Swank, who died May 1, 1987. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann (Roston) Jones of South Bend; four sons, Dan (Julianne) Swank, Ronny (Shirley) Swank, Jimmy (Kathy) Swank and Edward (Donna) Swank, all of New Carlisle; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters, Dolores D'ashel, Shirley Peterson and Vivian Sheeley, all of Niles, Mabel Beard of Joliet, Ill., and Ruthie Brockway of Baroda, Mich.; and three brothers, Robert Bennitt of Niles, Gerald Bennitt of Florida and Bud Bennitt of Bremen, Ind..

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with Rev. Greg Crump officiating. Burial will follow in the New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
