Mrs. Millie Sutherland, 86, dear mother and grandmother, who resided on East LaSalle Street, South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 8:25 A.M., Saturday, Feb-ruary 5, 2000, at Cardinal Nursing & Re-habilitation Center, following an illness. She was born to the union of the late John Henry and Susie (Watts) Johnson in Mississippi on April 16, 1913.

In 1926, in Mississippi, she married Bill Sutherland, who preceded her in death on December 28, 1993. Coming from Mississippi, she moved to South Bend in 1991. Mrs. Sutherland is survived by a loving family of six daughters, Anne (Eligha) Strickland, Eliza (Daniel) Boyd and Susan (Willie) Smith, all of South Bend, Sara (Issac) Spratt of Schlater, Mississippi, Margaret (George) Evans of Umitilla, Florida, and Rosetta (Willie) Badgette of Eustis, Florida; two sons, Joe Sutherland and Albert (Dorothy) Sutherland, both of Chicago, Illinois; seventy-nine grandchildren; ninety great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bessie Woods; one granddaughter, Leila Carol Sutherland; and a great-granddaughter, Lucretia Ashanda McGee; seven sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday at New Bethel Tabernacle. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 P.M. at Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted.
