SOUTH BEND - Jean C. Sullivan, 83, of Southfield Meadows
Nursing Home, formerly of East Angela Boulevard, South Bend, IN,
passed away at 11:25 A.M. October 7, 2008. She was preceded in
death by her loving husband of 63 years, John G. "Jack"
Sullivan, on October 25, 2007. Survivors include five daughters,
Jean S. (David) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, Patricia
(Steven) Sibo of Greenville, SC, Theresa (James K.) Lines
of Colleyville, TX, Ann Margaret (William) Kaiser of Palo
Alto, CA, and Frances (Andrew) Peacock of Indianapolis,
IN; four sons, Kenneth M. (Joan) Sullivan of Wheaton, IL, John
Edward (Robin) Sullivan of South Bend, IN, Robert M. (Lori)
Sullivan of Strongsville, OH, and Neal F. (Trish) Sullivan of
Cincinnati, OH; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jean was born on February 9, 1925, in Chicago, IL, to Rose
Carroll and John Guy Quirk, who both preceded her in
death. Also preceding her in death was her infant daughter Nora
on December 1, 1966. Survivors among Jean's siblings are her
sister, Marge (Thomas) Love of Dixon, IL, and her brother,
John (June) Quirk of Farmingdale, IL. Preceding Jean in death in
Phoenix, AZ, were her sisters, Marie (James) McKeever and
Bess (William) Scanlon, and her sister, Edna (Richard) Lemanski
of San Bernardino, CA. Jean attended Notre Dame High School for
Girls, Chicago, and was a member of the school's first graduating
class in 1941. She married Jack Sullivan in 1944 and they moved
to South Bend in 1952. Jean had a lifelong devotion to Our Lady
and served as sacristan for Sacred Heart Parish on the campus of
the University of Notre Dame. She was a member of The Christ
Child Society and the St. Anthony Parish Altar & Rosary
Society. For more than 30 years she supported the campaign to
elevate Blessed Martin de Porres to sainthood.
Friends may call Thursday, October 9, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Friday, October 10, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
