Burns Fatal to Hugh l. Stryker
Dies  From Explosion of Oil Poured on Coal Fire.

 

Seriously burned when kerosene he was pouring on a coal fire in his home exploded Tuesday. Hugh L. Stryker, aged 63, of 315 East Keasey Street, died in St. Joseph's hospital Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock.

 

He suffered a relapse after rallying late Tuesday. The explosion, which burned him about the face, arms and legs, set fire to the kitchen of the home, causing damages of $25.

 

Mr. Stryker was born in Terre Coupe Prairie, near Buchanan, Mich., Sept 5, 1871, and came here 25 years ago. He was married in 1890 in Berrien Springs, Mich., to Ima Maybelle Ward, who survives. He leaves also a son Max H. Stryker of this city; a brother, Dr. Wilford C. Strycker[sic], of Los Angeles, Calif. He was a member of the masonic fraternity in Berrien Springs.

 

The body is in the Forest G. Hay chapel where funeral services will take place at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Gilbert S. Cox D.D., pastor of First Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate and interment will be in St. Joseph Valley memorial Park.
