SOUTH BEND - Jeness Folk Strouse, 95, of Mitchell's
Country Care, formerly of Trent Way, South Bend, Indiana, passed
away peacefully surrounded by her loving caregivers at 8:15 a.m.
on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Mitchell's Country Care, South
Bend, Indiana. Jeness was born January 31, 1913, in Huntington,
Indiana. On November 27,1968, as Jeness Folk, she married
Charles E. Strouse, who died June 28,1999. She was also preceded
in death by her parents, William and Ellen Folk; and her two
sisters, Mrs. Martha Adams of South Bend, and Mrs. Bernice
Fry of Fostoria, Ohio. She is survived by her friend,
Judith Miller. Mrs. Strouse was a graduate of Huntington
High School. She received her BS Degree from Ball State
University, Muncie, Indiana; and her Masters Degree from Columbia
University, New York City, New York. She touched and enriched the
lives of kindergarten children for over 40 years in the South
Bend Community School Corporation, having taught at Lincoln, Hay,
and John Marshall schools. Mrs. Strouse was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of South Bend.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Indiana. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions celebrating her life may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 333 West Colfax, South Bend, Indiana, 46601.
