SOUTH BEND - Charles Howard Stroup, 97, residing in South
Bend, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He was born December
20, 1910, in Lydick, IN, to Charles and Verna (Schreddrick)
Stroup, and had lived in South Bend all of his life.
On January 2, 1932, he was united in
marriage to Mary Ort. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage
until her passing on July 20, 1995. He was also preceded in death
by his sister, Elva Yoder. Mr. Stroup is survived by two
daughters, Joan Blosser of South Bend and Shirley Thomas
of Longview, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ron
(Phyllis) Blosser of North Liberty, Mike (Sheila) Ringer
Sr. of Mishawaka, Colleen (Larry) Caver of Texas and
Sheila (Russell) Sisemore of Oklahoma; nine
great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mr.
Stroup retired in 1974 from South Bend Lathe following 33 years
of employment. He was a member of Sumption Prairie United
Methodist Church, enjoyed playing Euchre with his friends at
Howard Park, and loved to fish and do woodworking.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, January 12, in Sumption Prairie United Methodist
Church. Rev. Jan Dimck, pastor, will officiate. Graveside
services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the Palmer
Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South
Bend, and one hour prior to services Saturday in the church.
