Evelyn Strobel

Mrs. Evelyn Strobel,
70, of South Bend Avenue, died at 6:05 p.m. on Monday, March 1, at Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., to the late
Mathias and Bertha Brodnax Anderson. Evelyn lived here all her
life. On Dec. 14, 1946, she married Robert Woodward. After 27 years of
marriage, he died on April 14, 1973. She later married William Dungey on Aug. 24, 1973, who
passed away in 1976. On Sept. 3,
1977, she married Donald Strobel.
After 17 years of loving marriage, he also preceded her in death
in July 1995.
Evelyn was a
member of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church for many years, and was a faithful supporter of
the church.
She began her
career in women's apparel at Benton's Department Store (now Lane Bryant) while
attending Central High School. At the time of her death she was employed at
Lane Bryant, University Mall, where she had worked for the past
53 years.
She was a
graduate of Central High School and later attended Ivy Tech. College, South Bend, and IUSB, where she majored in business.
She is survived
by two sisters, Ruth ''Deano'' Braboy and Dorothy Armstrong, both
of South Bend; three nieces, Carolyn Carter of Indianapolis,
Ind., Sharon Holmes of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lisa Braboy Heard
of South Bend; two nephews, Jackie Armstrong of Cincinnati, Ohio,
and Terry Armstrong of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and by a great-niece and
eight great-nephews.
Her line of work
brought her in contact with many people, many with whom she made
friends. Along with her family, they too will miss her presence.
Visitation will
be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.
Funeral services
will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Grace A.M.E. Zion Church. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
