James R. Strebinger

James R. Strebinger, 49, of 10 Gregory Court, Lafayette, Ind., died unexpectedly at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He was born Jan. 21, 1954, in South Bend, Ind., to Robert C. Strebinger and Marilyn M. Bill. He had resided in Lafayette for the past 15 years, coming from Valparaiso, Ind.

 

He attended St. Joseph High School, South Bend, and worked as an associate at Subaru of America for 15 years. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, Lafayette, volunteered with L.U.M. (Lafayette Urban Ministry), was active with the Jefferson High School Haunted House and bands, and was active with the St. Mary-Haiti Project. James was veteran of the U.S. Army, a private first class who served in Germany, and was discharged in 1972.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer L. (Baughman), who he married in South Bend on Sept. 3, 1983; a son, Jeremy J. Strebinger-Sperry and wife, Billie Jo of Howey-of-the-Hills, Fla.; three daughters, Eve E. Johnston and husband, Bob of Boulder, Colo., Vanessa M. and Theresa E. Strebinger, both at home; his parents, Robert C. and Marilyn M. Strebinger of South Bend; four sisters, Annette M. (Bob) Heminger, Marcia A. (Ed) McMillen, Carol E. Williams and Sharon R. Strebinger, all of South Bend; four brothers, David J. (Patti), Paul E., Mark S. and Kevin S. Strebinger, all of South Bend; and by a grandson, Keaton A. Huber. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Brian R. Strebinger and John Charles Strebinger.

 

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, May 31, in St. Mary Cathedral, Lafayette, with Reverend Robert Klemme officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, where American Legion graveside rites will be held. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia Street, Lafayette, where a Rosary was said at 4:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary-Haiti Project or to the American Heart Association.
