NORTH LIBERTY - Matthew P. Strantz, 77, of North Liberty, passed
away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday March 10, 2010, in Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Strantz was born on March 20, 1932, in South Bend and resided
in the area his lifetime. On October 8, 1955, in South Bend he
married the former Dolores J. Odusch who survives. Also surviving
is a daughter, Cheryl A. (James) Wrobel of South Bend; a son,
James M. Strantz of Avon, Connecticut and two grandchildren,
Matthew and Sean Ciesielski whom he loved and cherished. A
brother, Robert Strantz of Mishawaka, IN. Matthew was a loving
husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family as they
did him. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all
who had the opportunity to know this wonderful man during his
life journey. Mr. Strantz was a veteran of the US Navy and was
proud to have served his country. Mr. Strantz retired from the
South Bend Fire Dept. after 21 years of service and also from
Sears Roebuck and Company after 25 years of service. Matthew was
an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. He always stayed busy
tinkering with various projects around the home. The family would
like to thank the staff on the 8th floor of Memorial Hospital and
the South Bend Fire Dept. Paramedics for their loving care. A
PRIVATE memorial Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Saturday in the
Chapel at Brothers of the Holy Cross with Fr. Kenneth Grabner
officiating. Burial to follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The
family would like all memorial contributions made to the Brothers
of the Holy Cross. The HANLEY & SONS "Southwest
Chapel" Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements
and extend its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the
Strantz family.
