SOUTH BEND - Nina M. Stout, 94, formerly of Berry Avenue
in South Bend, IN, died at 5:05 AM Saturday, August 30, 2008, in
the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born on February
13, 1914, to the late Charles and Elsie (Garber) Engel
in Cass County, Indiana, and had lived in South Bend since 1956,
coming from Bunker Hill, IN. Nina graduated from Bunker Hill High
School in 1932. She worked as a tool grinder for Hanes Stellite
Corporation in Kokomo, IN, for 11 years. On February 19, 1956, as
Nina M. Engel, she married Elmer E. Stout in Bunker Hill, IN,
until his death on January 15, 2006. Together they shared 49
years in marriage. Nina was also preceded in death by her
siblings, Mary Lendman, Alice Sutton, Galen Engel
and Delbert Engel; and son-in-law, Kenneth Cole. She is
survived by her brother, John (Vera) Engel of Bunker Hill, IN.
Nina loved to entertain friends and family with her wonderful
parties and holiday meals. She was always prepared for visits
from her family and grandchildren, with her delicious cookies
waiting for them in the freezer. She is also survived by her
daughters, Barbara L. (Marcel) Landuit of Granger, IN, and
Christine M. Cole of South Bend, IN; and sons, Ronald L.
(Floretta) Stout of South Bend, IN, and Michael L. (Cathie) Stout
of Arden, NC; 11 grandchildren, Ronald Stout Jr., Julie Geselle,
Tim Stout, Eric Stout, Mark (Michelle) Landuit, Michelle (Bill)
Pitt, Marsca (Tim) Dunn, Mary Swanson, D.V.M.,
Darren (Heather) Stout, Carl (Rebekah) Cole, Jeffery Cole and
Michelle Andrews; and 11 great-grandchildren, Travis
Landuit, Jillian Stout, Lauren Landuit, Brad Snyder,
Brooke Pitt, Dakota Cochran, Taylor Pitt, Katy
Stout, Cameron Pitt, Kira Dunn and Mara Dunn.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 4, 2008, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
