GRANGER - Alex A. Stopczynski, 81, of Michigan, formerly
of Granger, IN, passed away April 10, 2008, with his loving wife
and nine children at his side. Born July 21, 1926, he was the son
of the late Ignatius and Josephine Stopczynski.
On February 7, 1948, Alex married Mary
Catherine (Kintz) Stopczynski, who survives. Also
surviving are five daughters, Carolyn (Phil) Malstaff of
Granger, Linda (Booge) Einfalt of South Bend, Patty
(Rodney) Snyder of South Bend, Joan (Jack) Thomas
of Hastings, MI, and Pam (Kim) Daugherty of Granger; four
sons, Jim Stopczynski of Indianapolis, Dr. Bob (Gisela)
Stopczynski of Granger, Bill Stopczynski of Elkhart and John
Stopczynski of Mishawaka; two sisters, Virginia Dworecki of
South Bend and Theresa Walczewski of Granger; one brother,
Bernard Stopczynski of South Bend; 20 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
Alex was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II. He enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. He was an
avid gardener and liked to share his produce with family and
friends. He had a great love for animals, especially his two
dogs, Luke and Lucy. He worked as an automatic transmission
specialist for years, but farming was the passion that he did his
entire life.
He attended St. Pius X Catholic Church and
St. Ann's Catholic Church, Cassopolis. Friends may call today
from 3 to 6 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23. A
funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in St. Pius X
Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior. Memorial
contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
