Sister Josephine Sterk CSC, 89, formerly known as Sister M. Stansia, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the convent. She was born Nov. 1, 1902 in San Francisco as Josephine Helen Sterk. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Oct. 15, 1925; was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1926; and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1928. She was a teacher in elementary school in California, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday in the convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s.
