Carrie Stephens

Carrie Stephens, 66, of Clover Road,
Mishawaka, Ind., made her passage from this life to a better one
after an illness at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21. She was born
in Decoy, Ky., on March 8, 1931, and had lived most of her life
in northern Indiana, as well as many recent summers spent in
Traverse City, Mich. She worked as a beautician for 15 years in
Mishawaka, operating her own salon from 1966 until retiring in
1989. Carrie was a member of the First Church of God/Michiana
Community Church of God, Mishawaka. She was a devoted elder
member of the organization for many years.
As Carrie Howard, she married Leroy
Stephens in Knox, Ind., at the First Christian Church on Sept.
24, 1952. He survives. She is also survived by her son, Michael
Stephens and Jake, a yellow Labrador Retriever; a brother, Bobby
Howard, Jr., of North Judson, Ind.; her sisters, Hazel Dobson
of Vest, Ky., Nokie Russell of Denham, Ind., Virgie Mullins
of Savannah, Tenn., Geneva Licker of North Judson, Helen Jencezlik
of Knox, Katherine Morse of Mishawaka, Margaret Ann Strange
of Waterloo, Ala., Utella Richie of Winamac, Ind., Sarah
Jane Mann of Denham, Matilda Fullerton of DuPont, Wash., and
Linda Russell, also of Denham; and by many nieces and
nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews all over the United
States.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the
Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where
friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Officiating will be
Pastor Odene Wampler. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial
Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to
Hospice of St. Joseph County.
