John G. Steinhofer (Feb. 2, 1918 -- July 10, 2007).

SOUTH BEND -- John G. Steinhofer, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in his son's home.

 

John was born on February 2, 1918, in Fort Rice, North Dakota, to Frank M. Steinhofer Sr. and Mary (Koppy) Steinhofer. He retired in April 1981 from St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he was employed as Project Manager for 20 years.

On October 7, 1944, in South Bend, he married Marie E. Kagel, who preceded him in death on May 4, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janice T. Steinhofer; and a brother, Frank Steinhofer Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosemarie (David) Orvis of South Bend, IN, and Regina (Paul) Rogalski of Western Springs, IL; four sons, John F. (Sharon) Steinhofer of Indianapolis, IN, Gerard J. (Alana) Steinhofer of Brandon, FL, James F. (Shirley) Steinhofer of South Bend, IN, and Joseph M. Steinhofer of South Bend, IN; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Tomas, Jaimee Tomas, John B. (Amy) Steinhofer, Mark (Jennifer) Steinhofer, Angel (Kevin) Shell, Jerry Steinhofer, Melissa Steinhofer, Kelley Steinhofer, Paul Rogalski Jr., Elizabeth Rogalski, Alex Rogalski, Rebecca Rogalski, Nicholas Steinhofer and Aaron Steinhofer; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Steinhofer, Sam Steinhofer, Nolan Shell, Abigail Steinhofer and John E. Steinhofer; three sisters, Mary Goepfrich of Mishawaka, IN, Amelia (Walter) Dorn of South Bend, IN, and Theresa Mesaros of South Bend, IN; and by one brother, Joseph Steinhofer of South Bend, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Corpus Christi Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m.

John was a W.W.II Army veteran. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the V.F.W. Post #360.
