MISHAWAKA - Irene A Steinhofer, 83, of Mishawaka, loving mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed quietly from this
world on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. She was born to the late
Stephan and Elizabeth Hafner Teichman in South Bend, and was a
lifelong area resident. She was preceded in death by her beloved
husband of over 50 years, Jack, and by dear siblings, Betty
Bayard, Henry Teichman and Irma Bella. She is survived by
daughters, Mary (Jeff) Haas and Barbara (Norm) Hezlep, both of
South Bend; sons, David (Nancy) of Ft. Wayne, IN, John E. of
Kalamazoo, MI, and Paul (Mindy) of Oak Park, IL. Also surviving
are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Helen Paskiet of Buchanan, MI. Irene was a lover of the
arts, reading poetry, painting, gardening and sewing. She was an
avid tap-dancer and enjoyed performing with her friends in the
Battell Toe-Tappers. After raising her children, Irene worked for
Ries Furniture Company, retiring after many years of helping
customers find "just the right piece." The
grandchildren delighted in spending time with Grammie Irene. She
was also a favorite Aunt Irene to many nieces and nephews. Irene
was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish for over 50 years and
was involved in many parish activities during her children's
school years. Family and friends may visit in the Kaniewski
Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, on Friday,
April 23, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A parish Rosary will be
prayed at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, in St. Anthony de Padua
Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at
Sumption Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Battell Center or to the
