MISHAWAKA - Mavis Mae Steinhagen, 89, of Mishawaka, passed
away of natural causes in her residence on Monday, Dec. 17, 2007.
Mavis was born Nov. 25, 1918, to Rolland and Myrtle (Sellers)
Guard in Bremen, Indiana.
On May 13, 1941, Mavis was united in
marriage to John M. Steinhagen. John preceded her in death,
passing away in July 2001. Surviving are her children, DeEtta
(Albert Jr.) Tengelitsch of Oro Grande, New Mexico,
Darrell Steinhagen of Mishawaka and Jyll (Terry) Pollock
of Niles, Michigan. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Mavis was
preceded in death by her brothers, Keith and Evan Guard; her
sister, Janet Warner; and by a grandson, David.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
today, Dec. 20, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola,
Indiana. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the
11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, Dec. 21, in the Chapel Hill
Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial
Gardens, Osceola.
Mavis was a graduate of LaPaz High School
and attended her class reunions faithfully. She was employed for
over 20 years at the Kroger Deli until her retirement in 1981. In
her spare time, Mavis enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and
working puzzles. She was a NASCAR fan, following Ryan Newman and
enjoyed Indianapolis Colts football. She also collected John
Deere memorabilia. Holidays to Mavis were a wonderful time where
she enjoyed cooking big meals and spending time with her entire
family. She loved them unconditionally and spoiled the entire
family with her love and generosity.
